Flying Disabled has extensive experience in accessibility, both personally and across sectors in disability and aviation, including regulators and government. Accessibility in an air travel has been very much forgotten, however governments around the world are being pressured by campaign groups to hold the industry to account. The challenges ahead are new, and will no doubt be innovative, more importantly the desire to get these changes right is financially paramount.
The world of aviation and accessibility can be a maze, legislation is fractured and offers little harmonisation globally. Typically, aviation waits for legislation, however accessibility is not new and much work has already been achieved over land and sea – being ahead of the curve in air travel is the perfect place to be positioned.
Cabin designers are now starting to think about better accessibility to a broad church of accessibility requirements, innovation in aviation will no doubt spark thoughts and processes that will migrate to other sectors of transportation.
